Kota
A dog, not a very small one, but not a very big one, stood triumphant. Though his dry and cracked paw-pads were aching, his fur was dirty and matted, and his tail was filled with burrs, he stood as tall as he could, which still wasn't very big, with his chest puffed out proudly.
He, Kota, had just ran right through the trees--dodging every one--, and burst through several bushes--never minding the thorns--, jumped fallen logs--without a moment's hesitation--, and climbed a hill --paying no mind to the pain in his paws-- to catch his prize. A small deer.
He had been tracking it and its mother even since they had stepped their dainty hooves into the forest, and now only the mother would continue to walk among the bushes and trees.
He paused for a moment and put the deer, fawn, to be precise, down. He was sure he could smell a dog, possibly a wolf, nearby, but the scent was faint and he wasn't sure if it was from his own pack or not. His head tilted to one side as he tried to listen for any sounds of a nearby animal.
He wasn't usually this cautious, but he had worked hard for his catch, he was already disappointed at having not caught the mother, and he didn't want to risk having it stolen from him by stray dog, or a lone wolf.
Though he couldn't hear anything, he still sensed someone was nearby, and his hackles rose. He let out a low, vibrating growl of warning, and his eyes scanned the trees around him for any signs of another dog.
"Come out," he barked. He wasn't sure if another dog was really around, but he figured it was worth a try.
