Emerging from the trees beyond was a dark, solid figure. It was too far away for Jay to see its features, but he recognized the shape instantly. He sank lower behind a bush, hoping the brute couldn't see him. The other creature came closer, and now Jay could see its eyes, bright like the light of a fire. And the dog could see him, too. Jay stepped away from the bush, trying to keep the fear out of his eyes. If the dog saw weakness in him, Jay knew things would only get worse.
He could see the colors of the sire now, his blue and gray coat like a reflection of Jay's own. Jay dug his claws into the dirt, steadying himself and preparing for an attack at the same time. The other dog growled, sinister and low. Each word he spoke sounded like thunder.
"I can see the fear in your eyes, Jay."
"I am not afraid," He tried so hard to keep his voice level.
"You lie."
Jay's tail twitched. He looked up from the ground, meeting the eyes of the cold-hearted dog before him. His eyes turned to glass, and his voice to stone.
"You think so, do you?"
Jay remained still, chin lifted, almost challenging the dog. Then his eyes flickered, and he lowered his head. He knew he wasn't strong enough.
His voice full of amusement, the other dog muttered, "Bad choice."
He snarled, crouched, and lunged at Jay, his limbs outstretched and ready to tear Jay's flesh. Jay shuddered and tried to move to the side, trying to get out of the dog's way..
He opened his eyes, expecting to see himself lying in a pool of blood. Feeling perfectly fine, at least physically, Jay stood up and looked around. It was just a dream, he thought to himself, Your father's dead. And in a way, it was. But it also was a collection of his memories, the ones he tried to retain every day. His scars were hidden. Not by his fur, but by his hard eyes and blasé personality. He was only the shell of a dog.

S W I T C H B L A D E Black coal daggers scraped into the ground each time the bruttes paws pounded the the cool earth. His maw that never so much as bore a grin, still unchanged. Head held high as if he be alpha, flag raised the same. Blue optics scanned the area, for anything intresting a bluish-gray collie perhaps, this one didn't really care for the breed, or who the hell this dog was, this one just knew it was there, and he wanted it gone. The large white brutte pranced up to the young collie "hey! who the hell are you?!" Switchblade barked interrupting the silence that once ruled over the space. This one really didn't know how to communicate with others, all challenged him wether or not they had done anything to him, this kid, was no exception.
