Personality ;; From a young age Shadow has always been the determined sort, he prides himself on being equally strong and swift. He enjoys hunting and fighting, and will take any opportunity to prove himself, even though he is respected amongst the pack as one of the best fighters. As rumours surfaced a while after he brought down the bear, and he confirmed it was true but only to some. The past has left him scarred, indeed, but it is very rarely he will think of those he met in it. He has chosen to forget, even though when he dreams, he still sees Dove every now and then. Although Shadow is never openly upset or depressed; he appears to go quiet when something is on his mind. But it would take someone who truly knows him to recognise this.
At times he may be a little headstrong, and even a little ignorant to others feelings. It is hard for some who don't or can’t understand what he's been through to accept, and those will often distance themselves from Shadow. But aside from this, he is a rather friendly character, and will likely befriend everyone he meets because of how charismatic he can be. He will even play with the pups from time to time, even though most of the pack finds it odd. And sometimes he will even play-fight with the older apprentices. But if you push him around or get too cocky, you're going to get more than you bargained for. And believe me when I say: his bite is worse than his bark. Like many dogs on the island Shadow really despises humans. Although he is unsure why, the mere scent of one is enough to get his hackles up and a vicious growl resounding in his throat.
History ;; Shadow was born on the island, to his mother who was once a successful show dog. But their owners got tired of the nervous wreck that she was, and abandoned her. Tired, hungry, and more importantly heavily pregnant, she was dumped into the wilderness. But to her aid came a group of scouting feral dogs, they took her into their ranks. Shadow was born a few days later, into the pack life of 'Lerenzo'. He was trained well as a youngster; his mentor was an old and powerful warrior, whom had fought all of his life. Many tricks of the trade were passed onto Shadow, and he emerged as a fine fighter for the pack. But soon after, both his mother and much cared for mentor both passed away during a harsh winter, leaving Shadow more or less alone.
Although this broke his spirits in some ways, it also made he much stronger. It hardened his attitude towards life, after all death could only be a part of it. For the next few years in the pack he remained nearly silent, only speaking when needed to the leader. But to the rest of the pack he was cold, and unlike himself he ignored the pups as well. But come the next spring, he met his first 'love' shall we say. Her name was Dove, a pretty white mutt. But the problem was that the female insisted on remaining a loner, she had been exiled from her street-pack many years ago for something she said wasn't her fault. Shadow didn't mind, and continued to meet her whenever he could, but as the months passed he started to notice changes in her behaviour. She became withdrawn, like he had been, and more worryingly when she slept occasionally next to him, a heavy wheezing could be heard.
The male fret constantly over it, as Dove always insisted she was alright. Thankfully she survived the winter, and Shadow began to relax again. Her illness subsided as spring passed by, and they got back to their usual relationship. It was mere months later on one of his many deviations of 'chasing a rabbit' that he went and met her. This was where she confessed she was carrying his pups. Shadow was elated at the fact he might become a father, and once he returned to the pack that evening they all noticed how he'd become chatty again, and there was even a bounce in his step. But, tragedy soon swept round the corner as it so often did with the male. He returned to Dove's den on a late autumn afternoon to find the floor outside splattered with blood. He heard frenzied cries from inside the bushes and bounded through to find the huge hulk of a young bear viciously slashing at the female dog who was cowering.
When she saw Shadow she yelped with relief and jumped up, but that was when it happened. The bear drew back and smashed the white females skull into the ground with a sickening crunch. Blinded in a fit of rage and bloodlust he flew at the huge animal most dogs would flee from in an instant. He ripped he tore, and although the bear landed its large claws on him Shadow continued. He continued to savage the animal, until he overwhelmed it completely and it landed amongst the leaves gushing blood from every inch of its huge bulk. But Shadow didn’t stop, he continued to attack until he collapsed with exhaustion. The moon was low in the sky that night as he returned and washed himself in a pool of water. Along with it he washed away his sorrow, and as he washed the last traces of blood from his pelt he thought he saw a flash of white amongst the darkness. 'Dove!' he yelped, but she was gone. Then he heard a soft whisper behind him 'I'll always be with you' it said, and he thought he could feel her soft snout nuzzle his shoulder one more time. After that, he simply decided to move on. He couldn't remain stuck in the past forever.
RP Example ;; The dark shape of the dog moved around in the white substance that had fallen during the night. The pups were bounding around in it, despite the scolding barks from their mothers to come back to the den. Shadow gave a soft snort of amusement as they whined and pleaded with the older females. He could remember when he had been their age, always keen to leave the safety of the camp and explore the world beyond. Much to everyone’s dislike, Shadow had been a mischievous youth and lead them on many a wild goose chase through the forests. But he didn't have time to think back to those carefree times; instead he heard his name being called by a small familiar figure. He nodded and bounded after the hunting pack, the cold hardly effecting his thick winter pelt. It was going to be tough to find food in this weather.
