Jay had wanted to go on patrol to clear his head, but now he realized that being alone may have been the worst way to go. Memories of his childhood swarmed in his head like bees; always hard to get rid of. Sure, he didn't have the hardest life, and he knew that. He tried to forget about his father Talon, they way he would snarl demandingly and still punish when he was given what he wanted, for his goal was to make his pups independant and in charge. So, when would demand, it would end in a fight either way, just as he had wanted, to sharpen their skills.
As he patrolled, he kept his head lowered and his lips back. If a predator or intruder saw him, he couldn't look vulnerable. With glass eyes and a cold heart, he turned a corner.
He felt the warmth of the sun on his back and lifted his head to enjoy. No. He snapped it back down. One moment of self-enjoyment made you susceptible; you lost your focus...
Jay had never realized how much his father's teachings had influenced the way he thought. Now, every pawstep he made was haunted by him.
Jay kept his eyes on the border, focusing on the scents of the territory and clearing his mind of everything else. This was his life now, not Talon's. He could live it how he wanted. He wasn't bloodthirsty, but he wouldn't let himself be weak either. Jay vowed that he would never let anyone he met think that of him.

Kallik snorted, tossing her head. She took a deep breath, taking a few awkward steps forward. She leaned forward and sniffed the ground. The scents of brambles and bracken filled her nose and she grinned. "Lerenzo." She had loved being a loner, she loved being alone. She crossed the border without hesitating. She knew there was another way to the Venganza border but she loved irritating the other Lerenzo dogs. She trotted forward across the land. It usually took about 15 minutes to get to the other side of the land just going this slow.
She closed her eyes as she crossed the chilly brook and then found herself face to face with the Venganza border. She padded up along it, and looked to her right. There was a dog. She grinned and then snarled. "Greetings."
